  • Balm (4 parts)

  • Boil 1-1/3 tsp. mixture in 3 cups of water for 2 to 3 minutes, covered; let stand for 10 minutes and strain. Take 1 cup morning, noon, and night. Sweeten if desired. More info on the measles.

  • Mix in equal parts. Simmer 1 tsp. mixture in 1/2 cup water for 15 minutes; let cool and strain. Add enough water to restore the volume lost in simmering. Take before going to bed.

  • Dandelion root and leaves (7 parts)
  • Peppermint leaves (7 parts)
  • Alder buckthorn bark (15 parts)
  • American senna leaves (15 parts)
  • Steep 1 tbsp. of the mixture in 1 cup boiling water for 30 minutes. Take 1/2 cup several times a day. Medical supervision suggested. More info on obesity.

  • Wild sage leaves (12 parts)
  • Buck bean (4 parts)
  • Boneset (2 parts)
  • Rosemary leaves (2 parts)
  • Steep 1 tsp. mixture in 1 cup boiling water for 5 minutes, then strain. Take before going to bed.

  • Mix in equal parts. Steep 1 to 2 tsp. in 1/2 cup boiling water. Take hot.

  • Flax seed powder (8 parts)
  • Slippery elm bark powder (4 parts)
  • Fenugreek seed powder (4 parts)
  • Mix 1 lb. mixture with hot water or milk to make a thick, smooth paste. Apply to inflammations, swellings, painful areas, etc.


    Pregnant Women

    - (prevents nausea, miscarriage, reduces labor pains and increases milk production)
  • Cinnamon (1 part)
  • Blackberry leaves (5 parts)
  • Milfoil (5 parts)
  • Raspberry leaves (10 parts)
  • Steep 1 tsp. in 1/2 cup boiling water. Take 1/2 to 1 cup a day, in mouthful doses.


    Rheumatism

  • Take a combination of cucumber juice, carrot juice, and beet juice for rheumatic problems resulting from the retention of uric acid in the body. More info on rheumatism.

  • Steep 1 tsp. in 1/2 cup boiling water. Take 1/2 cup, 30 to 60 minutes before eating.


    To Calm the Stomach

  • Hops (3 parts)
  • Balm leaves (1 part)
  • European centaury (1 part)
  • Chamomile flowers (1 part)
  • Steep 1 tsp. mixture in 1/2 cup boiling water. Take 1/2 to 1 cup a day, unsweetened, in mouthful doses as needed.

    For a Weak Stomach

  • Sweet flag root
  • Wormwood
  • Mix in equal parts. Steep 1 heaping tsp. in 1 cup boiling water. Take in the course of a day.

    For a Weak Stomach

  • Comfrey (2 parts)
  • Calendula (1 part)
  • Knotgrass (1 part)

  • Celandine
  • Nettle
  • Oak bark

    To Strengthen the Stomach

  • Angelica
  • Wormwood or Yellow gentian
  • Mix in equal parts. Steep 1 tsp in 1/2 cup boiling water. Take 1 to 1-1/2 cups per day.

  • Sweet flag
  • Chamomile
  • Mix in equal parts. Steep 1 tsp. in 1/2 cup boiling water. Take 1 to 1-1/2 cups a day, in mouthful doses.

  • Mix in equal parts. Steep 1 tsp. in 1 cup boiling water. Take 1/2 cup, twice per day.

  • Chamomile herb
  • Peruvian bark
  • Colombo root
  • Quaking aspen bark
  • Mix in equal parts. Steep 5 tbsp. mixture in 1 qt. boiling water for 2 hours, covered; then strain. Take 3 to 4 tbsp. 30 minutes before each meal and before going to bed.

    Tonic

    - (tea that provides a good tonic any time)
  • Woodruff
  • Thyme
  • Wild strawberry leaves
  • Blackberry leaves
  • Raspberry leaves
  • Mix in equal parts. Steep 1 heaping tsp. in 1/2 cup boiling water. Take as desired.


    Salad For a Spring Tonic

  • Mix the fresh, young leaves of:
  • Brooklime
  • Watercress
  • Black elder
  • Nettle
  • Ground ivy
  • Dandelion


  • Tonsils

    - (tea for inflamed tonsils and mucous membranes)
  • Mallow leaaves
  • Mullein
  • Black elder leaves
  • Use equal amounts. Soak mallow leaves in cold water for 8 hours. Steep the others in boiling water. Mix the 2 teas and use as a gargle. More info on tonsillitis.


    Urinary Problems

    - (tea to help urination & to soothe burning or painful urination)
  • Rowan berries
  • Club moss
  • Barberry bark
  • Mix in equal parts. Steep 1 tsp. in 1/2 cup boiling water for 10 minutes. Take 1/2 to 1 cup a day, unsweetened or sweetened with honey, in mouthful doses.

    Varicose Veins

    - (an herbal wash that relieves)
  • Sweet flag root
  • Nettle leaves
  • Horse chestnut leaves & fruit
  • Thyme leaves
  • Mix in equal parts. Add 3 tbsp. to 1 qt. cold water, bring to a boil. Add 1/2 tbsp. salt and use to bathe the legs. More info on varicose veins.


    Tuberculosis

  • 2 oz. sanicle
  • 1 oz. marshmallow root
  • 1 oz. mullein herb
  • 1 oz. golden seal
  • 1/2 oz. myrrh
  • Of this mixture, take a heaping tsp. to 1 cup of boiling water. Let steep 20 to 30 minutes. Drink 1 cupful an hour before meals and before going to bed. (Used externally as a wash, applied 4 or 5 times a day, it is used to treat scurvy, erysipelas, sores, scald head, tetters, and rashes.)
